Iran’s Supreme Leader Reportedly Unconscious As Trump’s Deadline Nears

Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, is unconscious and being treated for a “severe” medical condition, according to a diplomatic memo, as President Donald Trump’s deadline to open the Strait of Hormuz looms.

Trump has given Iran until 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday to open the vital shipping lane or face “hell” and overwhelming assaults on its civilian infrastructure.

But it is unclear how any major decision will be made by Tehran. Khamenei is reportedly incapacitated and receiving medical treatment in the city of Qom, according to the memo seen by The Times.

“Mojtaba Khamenei is being treated in Qom in a severe condition, unable to be involved in any decision-making by the regime,” the memo reads.
