Professor Peter Terkaa Akper, SAN, Dean of the Faculty of Law at Hensard University, Toru-Orua, Bayelsa State, has played a leading role at the ICPC/NLS Zonal Workshop on Integrating the Teaching of Anti-Corruption in Nigerian Universities and the Nigerian Law School.
The workshop, themed ‘Institutionalising Anti-Corruption Education in Nigerian Legal Training’, was held in the historic city of Kano from 25th to 26th June 2026.
Professor Akper was selected to chair Thematic Group 3, which was tasked with developing the curriculum content for delivering anti-corruption education either as a stand-alone course or through integration into existing courses.
The group’s comprehensive recommendations, including a proposed four-unit course split across two semesters and detailed integration pathways for eleven existing law subjects, have been submitted in a formal report.
The proposed curriculum covers topics ranging from the definition and forms of corruption to illicit financial flows, asset recovery, and the role of international treaties such as UNCAC and the AU Convention.
The group also outlined teaching methods, including case studies, moot court exercises, and guest lectures from anti-corruption practitioners.
Speaking on the outcome, Professor Akper said the assignment allowed him to introduce Hensard University’s young Faculty of Law to the broader academic community.
He expressed gratitude to the university management for the opportunity and to his colleagues for their support.
Hensard University continues to assert its presence in legal education and national policy development, with Professor Akper’s contribution underscoring the institution’s commitment to embedding integrity and accountability in Nigeria’s legal training.
