Mr Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), travelled to Ibadan yesterday with Professor Pat Utomi to celebrate the 88th birthday of His Grace, Archbishop Alaba Job, alongside his 60 years of priestly ordination and 55 years of episcopal ordination.
In a post on his X handle, Obi described the event as a celebration of a lifetime devoted to God, selfless service, peace, justice and the upliftment of humanity.
“His inspiring example reminds us that true leadership is measured by sacrifice, integrity, compassion, and a commitment to serving others,” he wrote, adding that the Archbishop’s life remains “a beacon of hope” for a nation yearning for principled and selfless leadership.
Following the celebration, Obi and Utomi stopped at Loyola College, Ibadan – one of the secondary schools Professor Utomi attended – where an Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voter registration exercise was underway.
They thanked those already registered and appealed to those yet to register to do so before the closing date.
Obi encouraged the gathering to remain committed to the democratic process, saying voter registration is “the first step towards building the New Nigeria we all desire.”
He stressed that every registered voter represents hope for a nation where leadership is driven by competence, character, compassion, and a commitment to the common good.
