Professor Hope Eghagha has hit the ground running at Hensard University, Toru Orua, in Bayelsa State, where he has assumed duty as the Dean of Arts, Social Sciences and Management Studies.
The seasoned academic, who recently resumed at the institution, is already focusing on grooming and mentoring young students in English language — his area of speciality.
Eghagha brings with him a wealth of experience, honed over more than two decades of lecturing and researching at the University of Lagos, where he served as a professor in the Department of English. His arrival at Hensard University marks a significant addition to the young institution’s expanding academic leadership.
Speaking after his resumption, Professor Eghagha expressed a clear sense of purpose. He said he had a “mandate” at the university and was ready to give his best in moulding the minds of the youth.
He emphasised the importance of solid foundational training in the English language and other social and management sciences as a tool for critical thinking, communication and national development.
Welcoming him earlier, the Vice Chancellor of Hensard University, Professor Sudhakar Kota, underscored the high expectations riding on the new dean. He said he trusted Professor Eghagha’s capacity to make an immediate and lasting impact on the faculty.
Professor Kota added that attracting lecturers of Professor Eghagha’s calibre into the university is part of a broader strategy to provide the best in both staff and infrastructure.
Hensard University, he noted, remains committed to assembling world-class academics to complement its growing physical facilities.
The appointment has been widely seen as a major step forward for the young university, which continues to build its reputation as a centre of academic excellence in the Niger Delta and beyond.
