Peter Obi Possesses Proven Track Record To Salvage Nigeria, Says POMR

The Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) has declared that former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, possesses the requisite capacity, character, and track record to lead the recovery of Nigeria from its current socio-economic challenges.

The response follows recent remarks made by former Vice-Presidential candidate, Dr Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, who suggested that no single individual, including Mr Obi, could single-handedly rescue the nation.

In an official statement signed by POMR Spokesman, Idris Zekeri Jnr, the media body acknowledged Dr Datti Baba-Ahmed’s frustration with the depth of the country’s systemic crises but countered that his conclusion was unsupported by facts.

“Nigeria is undoubtedly in deep trouble. Years of mismanagement, corruption, waste, and poor leadership have weakened our institutions and placed an enormous burden on citizens,” the statement read. “The question is not whether one individual can magically rescue Nigeria. No individual can. The question is whether Nigeria can elect a leader with the character, competence, prudence, and courage to begin the rescue. We believe Peter Obi can—and will.”

Highlighting his achievements during his tenure as Governor of Anambra State, the POMR emphasised that Mr Obi treats public office as a public trust rather than an avenue for personal enrichment. The organisation noted his demonstrated fiscal discipline, prioritisation of education, healthcare, human development, and infrastructure investments.

The statement further clarified that Mr Obi’s approach would not rely on messianic claims, but rather on structural reforms, including:

  • Building strong institutions to sustain long-term stability and good governance.
  • Assembling competent personnel across various sectors to drive national development.
  • Confronting corruption and cutting government waste to ensure prudent management of public funds.
  • Investing in production to boost economic output and confidence in governance.

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the POMR urged Nigerians to distinguish between mere political promises and proven capacity, expressing confidence that Mr Obi can replicate his gubernatorial success at the national level.
