The City Boy Movement, a key campaign organisation advocating the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in 2027, visited Awka, the Anambra State capital, on Tuesday to drum up support for the President.
Their visit came barely a month after another support group, Relax Tinubu is Fixing Nigeria (RTIFN), led by Chief John Bosco Onunkwo, visited the state for grassroots mobilisation.
Addressing stakeholders at the Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre in Awka during a town hall meeting organised by the Anambra State chapter of the movement, the Secretary to the Anambra State Government (SSG), Mrs Chiamaka Nnake, advised the people of Anambra (Ndi Anambra) not to remain in opposition to the federal government.
Speaking on the theme ‘Can Anambra Afford to Be Disconnected from the Centre?’, Nnake posited that supporting President Tinubu’s second-term bid was the most reliable way to attract federal development to the state, adding that ‘nobody benefits from where they did not plant’.
In his remarks, the South-East Zone Coordinator of the movement, Chief Obinna Iyiegbu (Obi Cubana), urged the electorate to support the President, noting that Tinubu was already working for the region despite receiving limited electoral support from the state in the previous election.
Iyiegbu pledged to hold himself personally accountable should the President fail to deliver on development projects for Ndi Anambra after receiving their votes.
The Director-General of the movement, Tosin Shoga, acknowledged that some federal economic policies were currently tough on citizens, but described them as necessary temporary measures that would yield long-term prosperity. He highlighted federal interventions in the state, including the NELFUND student loan scheme, ongoing infrastructure projects, and key federal appointments.
The Anambra State Women Leader of the movement, Mrs Adaora Soludo, called on women to remain steadfast in their support, reassuring the audience that the President has the nation’s best interests at heart.
Earlier, the Anambra State Director of the movement, Sir Nonso Ozoemena, urged residents to set aside sentiment and recognise the strategic importance of aligning with the governing party at the centre.
Similarly, the Anambra State Coordinator, Enzo Uzor Nzeribe, explained that the movement was established to promote the Renewed Hope Agenda, empower local youths, and foster national progress.
Nzeribe pointed to key federal initiatives benefiting the region, such as the 3MTT technological training programme, social intervention schemes for petty traders, ongoing work on the Onitsha–Enugu and Port Harcourt–Enugu expressways, and recent salary upgrades for members of the Armed Forces.
He added that true restructuring was already taking shape through key policy shifts, including local government autonomy, state policing initiatives, and the creation of new military commands.
Dignitaries at the event included the Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Lady Esther Onyekesi; Chief of Staff to the South-East Coordinator, Amb. Elijah Onyeagba; A-Big Nwankwo; and a delegation from the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) led by its Chairman, Barr. Nonso Nwaebili.
