Oba Ojoto Celebrates Veteran Engineer, Political Figure Joe Igbokwe At 70

Engineer Joe Igbokwe, a prominent figure in Igbo politics and known affectionately as “Agbalanze Nnewi”, celebrated his 70th birthday today with tributes pouring in from across the country.

The celebration, held on the seventh floor of an undisclosed location, saw Igbokwe express gratitude to God, quoting from Numbers 6:24-26.

Chief Leonard Okafor, President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State Chapter, and widely known as Oba Ojoto, led the praise, describing Igbokwe as a “multi-dimensional leader with capacity and class.”

He lauded Igbokwe’s foresight, stating he possesses the ability to “distil the vapour of potential into a fertile downpour” for the benefit of the Igbo diaspora.

Oba Ojoto further highlighted Igbokwe’s impeccable integrity and his lineage from the esteemed Igbokwe family of Nnewi.

He emphasised Igbokwe’s life as a testament to faith, family, and traditional values, alongside his engagement with modern global challenges.

Born into a family renowned for its leadership and spiritual strength, Igbokwe has built a distinguished career spanning engineering, public administration, and politics.

He holds degrees in both engineering and public administration, alongside numerous professional memberships and qualifications from international leadership courses.

According to Oba Ojoto, Igbokwe is “not merely a candidate; he is a refined technocrat prepared for the rigours of governance.”

His three decades of experience in the political and administrative sectors, particularly within Lagos State, have equipped him with expertise in quality, safety, security, and environmental management.

He is also well-versed in risk assessment, procurement, construction, and large-scale infrastructure projects.

When questioned about his ambitions, Igbokwe reportedly cited “compassion” for the socio-economic challenges facing the Igbo people as his primary motivation.

He views public service as a form of worship, driven by a sense of responsibility, selflessness, and unwavering integrity.

Igbokwe’s vision centres on improving representation for Igbos in the diaspora and addressing the economic stagnation and insecurity plaguing the South East.

He intends to leverage his scientific background to transform leadership and governance, viewing law-making as a dynamic tool for progress.

Observers believe Igbokwe represents a new era of leadership, bridging the gap between technical expertise and empathetic governance.

One commentator, recalling past interactions with Igbokwe as editor of the now-defunct National Vision newspaper, concluded that “hope is no longer a distant horizon; it is arriving in Igbo Nation, steered by a hand that is both steady and skilled.”
