The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has enrolled 8,552 Nigerians living abroad under targeted passport intervention exercises conducted in the United States, Canada, Qatar, and the United Kingdom.
The Service stated that the exercises were undertaken in line with its commitment to improving passport delivery for Nigerians abroad, following directives from the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
According to the Service, the initiative was designed to bring passport services closer to citizens in various cities and was carried out in collaboration with Nigerian diplomatic missions and diaspora community representatives to ensure coordinated and efficient delivery.
In a statement issued on Monday by NIS spokesman Akinsola Akinlabi, the exercise in the United States took place between 7 and 15 September 2026 across Chicago, Michigan, and Milwaukee, enrolling 535 applicants.
In Canada, the exercise ran from 6 to 19 September 2026 across Manitoba, Toronto, Saskatoon, Alberta, and New Brunswick, enrolling 2,257 Nigerians.
The initiative in Qatar, held between 9 and 24 August 2026, registered 751 applicants.
Meanwhile, the exercise in the United Kingdom—covering London and Manchester—has enrolled 5,099 applicants so far and remains ongoing.
Akinlabi noted that passport production and dispatch are being carried out concurrently with enrolment in the United Kingdom.
The Nigeria Immigration Service advised applicants who were unable to secure appointments during these exercises, as well as those preferring not to visit the centres or the High Commission in person, to utilise the Contactless Passport Application System.
The Service reiterated its commitment to providing responsive, accessible, and efficient passport services for Nigerians in the diaspora.
