ABUJA — The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a scathing response following the defection of several party candidates to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a press statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director Esq, on 20th October 2026, the opposition party accused the ruling government of employing malicious tactics—including financial inducements and political appointments—to lure compromised candidates into its fold.
“For those who have fallen for this bait, it is clear that they lack the values, virtues, and ideological commitment associated with our great party. They were never truly of us. To them, we say good riddance to bad rubbish, and we wish them luck in their political misadventures,” the statement read.
Reassuring its supporters that the party remains unfazed, the NDC announced that it will immediately organise fresh congresses to elect credible, competent, and trustworthy replacements in the affected constituencies, in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026.
Describing the defections as the “last kicks of a dying horse,” the party urged Nigerians not to be perturbed, maintaining that the APC’s actions signal an awareness of its imminent defeat at the polls.
The NDC reaffirmed its commitment to rescuing the nation from what it termed the “vice grip of the buccaneers in power,” concluding with the rallying cry: “A New Nigeria is Possible. We can do it!”
