The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has officially announced the dates for the 99th and historic 100th editions of the Academy Awards, setting the stage for two milestone ceremonies in 2027 and 2028. These events will also mark the final years of the Oscars airing on longtime broadcast partner ABC before a significant transition to YouTube.
The 99th Oscars is scheduled for Sunday, March 14, 2027, while the landmark 100th ceremony will follow on Sunday, March 5, 2028. Both events will be broadcast live at 7 p.m. ET from the renowned Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, reaching audiences across more than 200 territories worldwide.
Looking further ahead, the Academy confirmed a major venue change beginning in 2029. The ceremony will relocate to the Peacock Theater, where it is expected to remain through 2039.
This announcement comes during a period of rapid change in the broadcast landscape. ABC is preparing for a high-profile 2027 lineup, including its debut as the new home of the Grammy Awards and its first Super Bowl broadcast in more than 20 years. Meanwhile, this year’s Oscars experienced a decline in viewership, attracting 17.86 million viewers across ABC and Hulu—a 9% drop from the previous year’s five-year peak.
Despite the dip, enthusiasm surrounding the awards remains strong. The most recent ceremony saw Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another” take home Best Picture, while early anticipation is already building for the upcoming season. Highly anticipated contenders include “Project Hail Mary,” led by Ryan Gosling, “Dune: Part Three” from Denis Villeneuve starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, and “Digger,” directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu and featuring Tom Cruise.
Hosts for both ceremonies have yet to be announced, adding further intrigue to these milestone events.
Alongside the ceremony dates, the Academy also released its full timeline for the 2026–2027 awards season. The schedule outlines key phases, including the eligibility period starting January 1, 2026, nominations voting in January 2027, and final voting set for early March.
