The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced a revision to the dates previously set for its internal party congresses and national convention, crucial steps in preparing for the 2027 general election.
In a formal notice issued today by National Chairman Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe and National Secretary Barr. Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, the party stated the decision to reschedule followed a review in the “best interest” of the NDC.
The original timetable, presented and approved during a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on 25th March 2026 – and observed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) – had outlined dates for congresses, primaries, and the national convention to elect party officials.
While the notice doesn’t detail the reasons for the postponement, it confirms that new dates are now in effect and are detailed in an accompanying document, labelled “Annexure A1”.
The NDC has requested that INEC officials attend to monitor the rescheduled events.
This move comes as the NDC prepares to select its candidates for the 2027 elections. Political analysts will be watching closely to see if the delay signals internal disagreements within the party or is simply a logistical adjustment.
