Why Youth Politician, Tagwaye Joined ‘Conflict-Free’ NDC

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has bolstered its ranks with the high-profile defection of Obinna Simon, better known as MC Tagwaye, a popular figure amongst young voters in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Tagwaye, formerly with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and recently a candidate for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) election, was welcomed with open arms by the NDC’s national leadership.

Senator Seriake Dickson, the NDC’s National Leader, and Senator Moses Cleopas, the National Chairman, presided over the ceremony, showering Tagwaye with the party’s signature fez cap and a membership card.

The FCT Chairman, Hon. Haruna Pai, touted Tagwaye as a well-known politician with nationwide appeal, promising full support from all local wards.

Senator Cleopas revealed the party had been courting Tagwaye for some time, ultimately deciding he was a “good man” and a “fit” for the NDC.

Dickson seized the opportunity to proclaim the NDC as Nigeria’s only political party free from the usual squabbles – no internal conflicts, litigation, crises, or factions, he declared. A bold claim in a notoriously turbulent political landscape.

Tagwaye himself framed his move as a patriotic duty, stating he joined the NDC not for personal gain, but to “stand against injustice, inhumanity, mismanagement, insecurity and other vices.”

He pledged his complete loyalty to the party and promised to leverage his extensive network to spread the NDC’s message across the country. He also gave a shout-out to Barrister Amanda Pam, acknowledging her influence in the FCT political scene.

The NDC is clearly hoping Tagwaye’s arrival signals a surge in support, particularly amongst younger voters.
