NDC Sets Up 17-Member Screening Committee For Aspirants Ahead Of 2027 Elections

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has unveiled a 17-member Screening Committee tasked with vetting aspirants for the party’s presidential, governorship, senatorial, and House of Representatives tickets ahead of the next general election.

The committee is scheduled to be inaugurated at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, 19 May 2024, and will be chaired by Senator Sam Egwu, the former two-term Governor of Ebonyi State. Egwu, a former Senator of the Federal Republic, brings decades of political and administrative experience to the role.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the NDC National Secretary, Barrister Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, confirmed that the party’s National Legal Adviser, Barrister Reuben Egwuaba, would serve as Secretary of the panel. The committee is a blend of senior party leaders, seasoned professionals, and members of the NDC National Working Committee.

“This committee has been carefully constituted to ensure a thorough, transparent, and credible screening process,” Enekweizu said. “We are confident that under the leadership of Senator Egwu, the party will present the strongest possible candidates to the Nigerian electorate.”
