*Releases Full List Of Electoral Committee Members For 2026 Primaries Nationwide—
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has confirmed that its nationwide primaries for presidential, National Assembly, governorship and state assembly candidates will proceed as scheduled on 29 May 2026, despite logistical complications caused by the Eid-el-Kabir public holidays.
In a press statement signed by the party’s National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, and National Secretary, Barr. Ikenna Alex-Morgan Enekweizu, the NDC acknowledged that the original timetable had designated 28 and 29 May for the exercises.
However, the combination of the religious holiday and resulting travel disruptions — including a shortage of available flights — has left many aspirants and screening team members stranded in Abuja after the screening exercise.
As a result, the party has revised the schedule: 28 May will now be used exclusively for arrivals, documentation with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies, consultative meetings, and other groundwork. The actual primaries will then take place on 29 May.
The statement emphasised that no state agencies — including the Police, INEC or the Department of State Services (DSS) — are authorised to take part in the programmes or meetings on 28 May.
Any activities carried out outside these guidelines, it warned, would be considered unauthorised and illegal.
On 29 May, the primaries will proceed in the following order:
- Presidential affirmation
- National Assembly primaries/affirmation
- State Assembly primaries/affirmation
- Governorship primaries/affirmation
All results will be collated and processed by the respective teams before being forwarded to the National Headquarters, where the National Working Committee will make the official announcement.
No state executive or team has the authority to announce results independently.
The NDC called for understanding and urged all participants to behave responsibly, stressing that the party has zero tolerance for violence, disorderly conduct, or hooliganism.
The party also officially released the full list of members of its electoral committees for the conduct of the State Houses of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, Governorship, and Presidential primaries across the 36 states of the country and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The list, signed by the National Chairman, Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, and the National Secretary, Barrister Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, contains the names of chairmen, secretaries, and members appointed to oversee the primaries scheduled for May 29, 2026.
