Dickson, Peter Obi Resolve Party Differences In Three-Hour Closed-Door Meeting

By Our Correspondent—

Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, national leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has called for an end to internal bickering following a lengthy meeting with the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Democracy Day.

In a statement posted to his Facebook page on Friday, Dickson said he received Mr Obi – whom he described as his brother, colleague and partner in the New Nigerian Project – along with several distinguished party leaders for a closed-door session that lasted around three hours.

“In the course of that meeting, we reviewed the activities of our party and discussed a few recent issues that have been a source of concern to all sides, and we amicably resolved all the issues,” Dickson wrote.

The former Bayelsa State governor stressed that he and Obi have always been “on the same page on the bigger picture” – namely, winning elections for all NDC candidates and rescuing Nigeria from what he described as the “misgovernance of the APC-led government”.

He acknowledged that a few issues had arisen but said agreement had been reached on how to handle them moving forward.

Dickson used the opportunity to appeal to party members to cease “bickering and name-calling” and to remain focused on the shared mission.

“Both His Excellency Peter Obi and I, as well as other leaders and stakeholders of our party, will continue to consult and engage with one another to address and resolve concerns, strengthen the unity and cohesion of our party, and ensure that we remain focused on our shared mission of rescuing Nigeria and building a better future for all,” he added.

The meeting comes amid growing speculation about internal tensions within the NDC ahead of the next general election cycle. Dickson’s call for unity signals a concerted effort to present a united front as the party gears up for what promises to be a fiercely contested electoral battle.
