ABUJA — The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) has appealed to Nigerians to reject political violence, inflammatory rhetoric, and disinformation as the country celebrates its 66th Independence Anniversary and prepares for the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Wednesday, the Director-General of the IPCR, Dr Joseph Ochogwu, stressed that sustainable national development cannot occur in an environment marked by conflict, intolerance, or social division.
With political activities expected to increase ahead of 2027, the Institute urged political parties, candidates, religious leaders, civil society groups, and young people to prioritise peaceful dialogue, tolerance, and respect for democratic principles.
Dr Ochogwu also highlighted the need to address underlying drivers of conflict, including poverty, unemployment, and social exclusion, while reaffirming the Institute’s commitment to strengthening national peacebuilding frameworks.
