MAIDUGURI — The Borno State Police Command has issued a clarification regarding the arrest and prosecution of five individuals in Maiduguri over alleged incitement, breach of public peace, thuggery, and possession of illicit substances.
The suspects were arrested on 25 September 2026 during a routine patrol near the West End Roundabout in Maiduguri. According to police reports, officers recovered 15 wraps of suspected cannabis, 100 tablets of suspected D5, a shisha pipe, a pair of scissors, and two T-shirts bearing political inscriptions.
Addressing public commentary regarding the political slogans on the seized clothing, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, emphasised that the arrest was based strictly on public order enforcement.
Daso stated that the Nigeria Police Force remains an impartial, professional body that does not discriminate based on political affiliations. He added that the matter had been charged to court, allowing the judicial system to evaluate the charges based on the evidence presented.
