ABUJA — The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced that active consultations are currently underway to finalise and inaugurate its Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) ahead of the upcoming general elections.
According to a press statement signed by Osa Director Esq on behalf of the party, NDC Presidential Candidate Peter Obi and his running mate, Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have held a series of productive strategic meetings with the party’s National Leader and central leadership.
To foster unity, inclusiveness, and electoral victory, the party leadership has granted the presidential candidate and his running mate a free hand to nominate key campaign officials.
These roles include the Director-General of the Campaign, Deputy Director-General (North), Campaign Spokesman, Deputy Spokesperson, Head of New Media, Finance Director, and Deputy Finance Director, among others.
The NDC confirmed that a comprehensive organogram for the campaign structure was developed in August and shared with Obi and Kwankwaso for their final input, alongside submissions from nationwide stakeholders.
Addressing financial management, the party emphasized that the Finance Director and Deputy Finance Director will collaborate directly with the National Treasurer to oversee campaign funds.
This measure aims to guarantee transparency and satisfy the statutory reporting requirements set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in accordance with the Electoral Act. All funds raised will be deposited into a dedicated presidential campaign account.
The party revealed that the formal inauguration of the PCC, initially scheduled for the first week of September, was postponed due to the presidential candidate’s travel commitments.
The final composition of the council and the official campaign timetable will be published once the candidates conclude their inputs and fundraising arrangements.
In a call for internal cohesion, the NDC urged all candidates and their support bases to avoid internal friction and focus on challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“There are no battles to fight within the NDC. The common opponent to defeat is the ruling APC,” the statement read, calling on all flagbearers to keep their focus firmly on securing victory at the polls.
Simultaneously, pursuant to the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026, the party leadership has instructed all State and Local Government Area (LGA) Chairmen to immediately convene meetings with local candidates and stakeholders.
These meetings will serve to collate and harmonise lists of party agents for both National Assembly and Governorship/State Assembly elections.
The final lists must be scrutinized and ratified by the party leadership, including the presidential and vice-presidential candidates, within two weeks before formal agent training begins.
A dedicated committee overseeing the appointment of party agents is chaired by Comrade Babatunde Alli, Deputy National Chairman (South), alongside Vin Martin Ilo as Secretary, Dr Yunusa Tanko, Nafiu Dankura, and the National Vice Chairmen representing Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
